Liberated Muse Volume I: How I Freed My Soul

Profile Information

About Me:
The online site www.LiberatedMuse.com began in Jan. 2008 by Khadijah "Moon" Ali-Coleman as an online space for artistic folk who wanted a place to hang-out and network with like-minded people. Shortly after www.LiberatedMuse.com was started on Ning, Moon and long-time friend Maceo Thomas got to talking. Maceo was so impressed with a recent show he had seen in DC where some indie performers were rocking the stage. He had never heard of these folks before and wanted to know what else was out there in DC that folks like him were unaware. He pitched the idea of putting on some type of showcase for indie artists, and the idea for the Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest was born.

Moon and Maceo began Liberated Muse Productions, the business entity in 2008 formally as a business partnership to produce the Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest which debuted in the summer of 2008. They determined to have the festival in the Ward 7 area in DC because of their work east of the river, and their belief that the area was often neglected when it came to bringing arts events and activities to attract the emerging 30 and up population in DC that often frequented hot spots like the U street corridor and Adams Morgan.

The festival was held in Marvin Gaye Park, located in the east of the river community soul legend Marvin Gaye was raised.

The first festival boasted high attendance and a stellar roster of local talent.

The second annual festival was held on July 25, 2009 and garnered sponsorship from the US Cenusus Bureau, State Farm, and East of the River newspaper-- the paper both Moon and Maceo are frequent writers for.

Moon and Maceo are hoping to build a movement of the arts in DC. Liberated Muse is TRANSFORMING SPACES INTO ART PLACES.

What a nice comment...I didn't think anyone saw them. They are just random thoughts that pop into my head. The new spot is a great place to leave them! Thank YOU for noticing!
