Stress and Prescribed Medications Just don't mix

Michael Jackson and the Jackson family are very beautiful people. It was tragic for many to hear of his death. Through their music, they have touched many souls. Michael Jackson was giving and very loyal to his fans. I’ve seen many celebrities give back, but he would also visit the sick children from Africa and many of the kids that were blessed through the charities that he had donated to. That is something very rarely done in the world. We as vessels of God should always have compassion for the poor, the widowed, and the orphans. But many people in the world (black and white) complain when a little of what they have goes to those that are less fortunate than themselves. All people are not poor because they choose to be. In fact, the Jackson’s was a very poor family growing up in Gary, Indiana. On top of being abused as a child, Michael suffered greatly at the hands of the media. Being labeled as a child molester is overwhelming for anyone that is innocent in that situation. He didn’t go through it once but twice with two different individuals. All he did was try to make the world a better place. I can see that as being very abnormal through the eyes of this country. As I watched the court cases, I noticed that his whole family supported him. I also noticed how frail he became throughout the trial. He appeared to be very stress. The media has painted an ugly picture of MJ being addicted to prescription drugs. I’m going to give you some facts on stress and prescription drugs. You will also find throughout this article that certain medicines are just as addictive as some street drugs, and many pharmaceutical companies are very aware of that.

Stress

Stress puts a toll on your body. When a person becomes stressed, the brain signals a release of adrenalin and cortical. These are hormones that boost our blood sugar and oxygen levels, push more blood to the brain, and the result is increased alertness. The average "adrenalin rush" experienced while in traffic supplies enough glucose to keep you running for a mile.

In the short term stress suppresses the immune system, increasing the risk of infections; slows down the body's rate of repair; slows down the metabolism; robs the body of vital nutrients. And the symptoms can be: recurrent headaches; vague aches and pains; dizziness; heartburn; muscle tension; dry mouth; excessive perspiration; pounding heart; insomnia; fatigue.

Medium term, as we become more and more stressed out, our body begins to adapt to the high level of stress hormones. As a result we feel increasingly anxious, fatigued and prone to mood swings.

Long-term stress: promotes rapid ageing; leads to weight gain or loss; increases the risk of developing osteoporosis, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer and digestive problems.

When we find ourselves stuck in the stress response and it is chronic, we become exhausted and depleted of vitamins and minerals. Our energy plummets and our body’s ability to produce adrenalin decreases. Consequently our emotions take a dive and we may experience anxiety, fear, restlessness, irritability, anger, and depression. There is only one problem that lies between those factors. Patients are often misdiagnosed because many doctors are unaware of the stress related issues, but are very aware of the symptoms that can be caused by so many other things. As an end result they prescribed medications that suppresses the body’s conditions, but further puts the body in more danger. I worked for a law firm for four years, and we have had many cases against pharmaceutical companies for certain pain relievers that do the body more harm than good. Medications such as Vioxx, Nuva Ring, Ortho Evra, Duragesic Pain Patch, Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch, Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch, Bard Composix kugel Mesh Patch, Avindia, Trasylol, Fosamax, Accunane, Digitek (Digoxin), and Reglan are well known medications that Merck was very aware of the side effects, but failed to make it publically known. As lame as it may sound to some, most prescribed medicines especially narcotics seems to always have very uncomfortable side effects, and are known to be addictive. However if you are in pain, do you stop taking them? If you are stressed, does it give you a sense of relieve for a short period of time? Do these medicines increase the risk of disease? Does a multimillion dollar company have much to lose if certain medications are pulled from the shelf? Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes. That explains why Merck went to the extent to cover up the detrimental side effects of certain medications for years.

It is in my best interest to notify the public of the dangers of stress and the resulting effect that prescribed medications has on the body. Especially in patients that deal with stress related issues. It is my belief that pharmaceutical companies are the King Pin of your local physician supplying them with medications that are known to be addictive and eventually detrimental. This is something that the media really needs to address. Especially since they exploit those whom they feel are abusing these same medications. Just a couple of years ago, a friend of mine Grandson who had been prescribed medication for ADHD hung himself while at camp. He was only eleven years old. His Grandmother often complained about the depressed state he was constantly in after he began taking this medication. While off two camp, he was not given the proper dosage a day that was recommended by his doctor. With the medicine his behaviour which I found to be normal for a child was so under control that you could hardly get him to speak. Without the medicine he was overly depressed. His body had become dependent on that medication. Narcotics, Stimulants, and Depressants often have that effect on the human body.
